Many consumers are looking for natural choices in the bedroom such as latex mattresses and toppers, organic sheets, mattress pads and comforters. Many manufacturers use terms such as "natural" or "organic" which do not accurately represent the actual materials used to produce the products, a process known as "greenwashing".
As an example, let's consider
latex mattresses and toppers. Premium latex generally uses the Talalay
process to produce a more uniform latex product. Talalay latex is
available as a blended latex product and as 100% natural latex. 100%
natural latex is a green product, indicating that no synthetic latex has
been used in the production of the the latex (the actual latex content
is approximately 97%, with some inert chemicals used to froth the latex).
On the other hand, many manufacturers using blended Talalay latex in
their mattresses, advertise that product as a "natural" latex mattress.
Representing a mattress in this fashion is considered "greenwashing",
as some natural latex has indeed been blended in with a much larger
percentage of synthetic latex, a process that lowers the cost of the latex.
Because
many so called "green" products are advertised in the same fashion,
Natures Bedroom will suggest to you to only products that
accurately represent themselves to the consumer as an all natural or
organic product, one that you can depend on for a safe home environment. A personal choice, that we highly recommend, are certified 100% natural latex mattresses and toppers manufactured by FoamSource. Go to www.foamsource.com for more information.
